| Camp Royal "Stuff" | |||||||||||||||||
| The camp has been held at Bar 717 Ranch, Hyampom, CA since its inception in 1979. About 12 miles west of Hayfork in Trinity County, it is as secluded as it is beautiful. The camp is located at 2,000 feet, in the Trinity Mountains. The temperature can vary from 35 to 95 degrees F in a 24-hour period. It rains off and on throughout the summer. | |||||||||||||||||
| In 2010 it was COLD at night… | |||||||||||||||||
| Come prepared! Too many warm things are better than not enough. | |||||||||||||||||
| Upon arriving at Camp Royal you will be given TWO (2) T-Shirts. | |||||||||||||||||
| You wear one each day, and starting the 2nd full day of camp we | |||||||||||||||||
| wash one while you wear the other. You only need your own shirts | |||||||||||||||||
| for the day you arrive and the day you depart, plus for the | |||||||||||||||||
| days you choose to go to the river for the swimmin' hole. | |||||||||||||||||
| Clothing to Pack for Camp | |||||||||||||||||
| Two (2) Long-sleeved shirts or sweatshirts | |||||||||||||||||
| Two (2) or three (3) pairs of shorts or cut-offs of appropriate length | |||||||||||||||||

| This is very important, as the trails are not lighted and | |||||||||||||||||
| you will be walking to and from your platforms at night. | |||||||||||||||||
| Extra laces (optional) | |||||||||||||||||
| Small back pack (optional) | |||||||||||||||||
| An Additional Clothing Note | |||||||||||||||||
| Camp Royal sweatshirts and t-shirts are blue (have you seen the pictures of past camps?). | |||||||||||||||||
| Camp Royal T-Shirts will be issued and worn as the Camp Uniform of the Day, everyday. They will be laundered daily, whereas other clothing will not. In past years, socks and undergarments have tended to be in short supply toward the end of the week, so please be sure to bring a sufficient supply. Don't pack too many extra shirts or tops! | |||||||||||||||||
| Please leave your most valued articles at home. We encourage you to bring only simple and functional clothing, as there will not be room on the bus for excess clothing. Furthermore, although hats in general are acceptable and encouraged in case of bad weather, all hats with logos are discouraged. Also, to avoid loss, keep expensive eyewear at home. | |||||||||||||||||
| Remember! Do not bring anything that you cherish. This is an outdoor, camp experience; fashion statements are not necessary. | |||||||||||||||||
| Sleeping Accommodations | |||||||||||||||||
| Your Sleeping accommodations will be primitive, but safe. Camp Royal Platforms await you. You will share the platform with seven to nine campers and an adult, professional counselor. The camp grounds are segregated geographically into men's and women's areas. Bring a warm sleeping bag, a heavy blanket or two, a pillow and pillow covers. | |||||||||||||||||
| The platforms are open on three sides. Platforms and showers do not have electricity (except for lights). | |||||||||||||||||
| Personal Items to Bring | And most importantly: | ||||||||||||||||
| Laundry bag | Flashlight | Wrist Watch (there's no cell phone | |||||||||||||||
| Soap and soapbox | Batteries | service, so the clock won't work!) | |||||||||||||||
| Comb | Wash cloth | ||||||||||||||||
| Shampoo | Hair brush | Battery powered or wind up alarm clock. | |||||||||||||||
| Insect repellent | Toothpaste | ||||||||||||||||
| 2 Bath towels (will | Chap-Stick | ||||||||||||||||
| not be laundered) | Sun screen | ||||||||||||||||
| One for swimming/one for bathing | |||||||||||||||||
| Add whatever other items that will make your stay comfortable. Note: Hair dryers and other electric items cannot be used - no power outlets are available. | |||||||||||||||||
| Communication with the Outside World | |||||||||||||||||
| Bring stamps and envelopes or cards if you wish to write home. Stamps are not available at camp. An emergency incoming phone number is available (530-628-5085) for essential family contacts only. We discourage outgoing calls, as it is a shared party line with the campground owner's family. | |||||||||||||||||
| Security Note | |||||||||||||||||
| Take reasonable precautions to identify and safeguard your personal items. Small cameras and other like items become difficult to see if set down or dropped in the woods. | |||||||||||||||||
| We are very fortunate that only honest persons have visited Camp Royal. Realistic precautions to prevent mix-ups are advised. | |||||||||||||||||
| We have experienced no losses to date; our hopes are to continue this! See CAMP BEHAVIOR also. | |||||||||||||||||
| Medications | |||||||||||||||||
| Any prescription medication you bring must be in prescription containers. | |||||||||||||||||
| Over the counter medications must be easily identifiable. The medical staff at camp will inventory and may need to store your medication for you. Don't forget your Allergy Meds -- the pollen count can be high! (Important, so repeated below.) | |||||||||||||||||
| Motion Sickness Alert!!! | |||||||||||||||||
| The bus ride to camp after lunch is on twisting and turning roads. If you are prone to motion sickness, please take medication before you board the bus, or at the latest before you eat lunch. It often takes an hour to start working -- be prepared! | |||||||||||||||||
| Nature's Hazards | |||||||||||||||||
| There is an abundance of poison oak in the woods, so if you have an extreme reaction to this plant, please bring appropriate medications, cremes or salves. While the paths are clear of this natural hazard and the counselors are trained to spot it, it never hurts to be prepared! POLLEN COUNT MAY BE HIGH -- Bring Allergy Medicine if you use it. | |||||||||||||||||
